Terms of Service

Last updated: May 16, 2026

1. About WhoHadThat

WhoHadThat (the “Service”) is a web app at whohadthat.com that helps groups split a restaurant bill. One person photographs a receipt, the app reads the line items, each diner selects their items, and the app generates payment links so the payer can collect.

WhoHadThat is operated by an individual ( support@whohadthat.com ), referred to as “we,” “us,” or “the operator.” By using the Service you accept these Terms.

2. We do not process payments

WhoHadThat does nothold funds, process payments, or act as a money transmitter. Payments happen entirely between you and your chosen payment app (Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, Apple Cash). We generate links that pre-fill the recipient and amount; the actual transfer is governed by those services’ terms.

We are not responsible for declined, delayed, or disputed transfers, for incorrect amounts you confirm in another app, or for any fees charged by a payment provider.

3. Accounts & sign-in

You can use most of WhoHadThat anonymously. If you sign in (via Google, Discord, or email magic link), we associate the splits you create with your account so you can see history across devices. Authentication is handled by a third-party authentication provider; we do not store passwords ourselves.

You agree to provide accurate information, not to impersonate others, not to share credentials, and not to access the Service through automated means without permission.

4. Your content

Receipt photos, item details, participant names, and payment handles you share belong to you. By using the Service you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store and display that content solely to operate the Service for you and your invited participants.

We do not sell your content, use it for advertising, or train AI models on it. Receipt photos are sent to a third-party AI vision service at upload time to extract line items; that service is contractually prohibited from using your content for its own purposes (including model training). See the Privacy Policy for details.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Upload content that is not yours to share or that violates any law.
  • Use the Service to deceive, harass, defraud, or pressure others into paying amounts they do not owe.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or disrupt the Service.
  • Use the Service if you are under 13 or below the minimum age of digital consent in your country.

6. Availability

The Service is provided on an “as-is” basis. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uptime. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

7. Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account, email support@whohadthat.com. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms.

8. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits or data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to USD $50.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of San Francisco County, California.

10. Changes

If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
